Carley

Branding Studio Shoot

This shoot took place in a spacious studio with Carley; she wanted photos to promote her upcoming agency. The studio was all white; we leaned into it for a clean, minimalist aesthetic. Everything was pretty straightforward; I wanted to make sure the lighting and composition highlighted her presence within the space.

I used a one-light setup; positioning the light at a Rembrandt angle; roughly 45° from Carley; with the light slightly above her head; pointing down to sculpt her features and add subtle depth. I shot with my Sony a7III and 24–70mm f/2.8 Sigma lens; which gave me the flexibility to capture everything from tight headshots to wider environmental frames. My camera settings were 1/250 shutter speed; f/4 aperture; and ISO 200. I’ve found that this camera produces its cleanest look at ISO 200; even more so than 100; giving the images a crisp, polished feel. The light power was set at 1/32; to achieve a soft yet defined illumination on Carley without overpowering the white background.

This was also my first shoot for an actual brand; so it was pretty cool to see all of the intentionality and attention to detail she wanted come to life. The simplicity of the setup allowed Carley to shine; while keeping the focus on her energy and the professional vibe of her brand. Sometimes the most straightforward shoots; with clean lighting and intentional composition; end up being some of the most effective.
